1:35p I'm living in my own private Tanelorn
I'd be rather vocal in hoping that this piece of work didn't graduate from one of our two local collegiate cornucopia of entitlement brats and clueless vermin, but I'd be better off wishing for a dinosaur for my birthday. In lieu of that, I'd just be happy in hoping that when this twit was taken into custody, he wasn't screaming "When MY GOOD CLOSE PERSONAL FRIEND George W. Bush finds out about this..." as he was being hauled off.

12:20p DIY giant plywood dinosaurs
I have to admit that normally I detest those plywood dinosaur skeleton kits that were so inexplicably popular in the Eighties, if only because a quick eBay search for "dinosaur model" comes across 3700 entries for the plywood ones and maybe three for the models I really seek. It's only when I can get the Czarina involved with instructions on making life-sized plywood dinosaur skeleton models that they start to get interesting...especially since the instructions give suggestions on how to convert fossil reconstructions into plywood plans.

12:11p The Science of Scotch
I'm not saying that there's causality in my ancestors frequenting areas of the planet where the filthiest four-letter words that can be uttered in public are "Last call." I'm also not saying that my inability to imbibe more than a can of beer without falling into a coma is proof of the family suspicion that the elves stole the real Paul Riddell out of his crib forty-odd years ago. I am saying that the more I pay attention to the science behind the flavor of scotch whisky, the more likely it is that I'll be invited to the next Riddell family reunion, if only so I have something to talk about that they care to hear. Just sayin'.

11:25a Monday Meeting: Return of Things Chaney's Not Allowed To Say
This Week's Work (paraphrased from each person's email)
Team Exalted John: "Trying to wrap up Graceful Wicked Masques development by the end of this coming weekend. Leisure Club meeting tomorrow. Outlining and contracting a couple of books this week." Brian: "More board game card tweaks. Need to art direct the comic pages for The East book. Have to leave early today to get the car worked on (will be taking off around 4) as the a/c is shot and needs new parts. Thanks for fixing my car, economic refund stimulus check!"
Team Vampire Joe: "More Redlines Unending. I should be done with them on Tuesday or so, which puts me back into the clanbooks from that point on for the rest of this week." Craig: "Getting a second proof of Gangrel around to relevant parties and then following corrections this week."
Team WoD/VtES Ethan: "Moved over to The Tower, so now I'm Windows-capable. As such, I'll be working on Hansoft intermittently and trying to see if I can figure out the new warehouse request procedure. Also helping out with Hunter proofs, I believe. Continuing outline work and author selection for them Changeling books." Aileen: "My week: Hunter Screen. Hunter Character Sheets." Chaney: "If I can stop gurgling when I inhale and exhale...and not charlie-horse myself when I cough... Finishing up Hunter, more layout on [Hunter book], ADing the last of the VTES cards, Contracts for VTES and [Hunter book], finishing up some of the other Hunter merch stuff like shirt and all. Hopefully, there isn't a mousepad in there."
Team EVE Russell: "Technology meeting with Iceland this week. I also have new rules drafts from several writers, which I need to go over for consistency. Helping Eddy out with the Requiem LARP. Faintly hoping he’ll cast me as some really Hollywood Nosferatu. Oohing over my shiny new copy of Daeva."
Team AP Eddy: "Slowly becoming more and more human through the application of drugs. This week I’ll be back to redlining the Scion Companion, as well as working on an in-house LARP on Friday and doing the initial development work on two SASs for September. Also, development of [new AP project]." Jess: "Today getting new kid really for post on the web, sending business cards to chad for print, and gangrel stuff for craig. Rest of the week, starting on daughter of nexus and several other things"
Team Intern Priscilla: "Trying to remember how a Mac works, and where I left off at in the image archive. Perhaps some stuff for EVE archive and DriveThru products."
Team the matt the matt: "answering artist emails and approving art, proofs, schedule questions, catching up on emails, meetings"
Mike Chaney declares GTAIV "better than any MMO." Brian asks if he'll still be playing GTAIV in a year. Chaney says yes, if he had the XBox 360 version. In talking about GTAIV, matt resurrects the list of Things Chaney's Not Allowed to Say, and adds "cheesy vagina" to the list. Russell asks Chaney if he thinks he's Jean Claude Van Damme. Joe mentions that a life-long career of shooting people in the face will make you British. Chaney declares Aztec Rex and Speed Racer both horrible.
Meeting topics included some discussion of last Friday's all-hands meeting, how we'll be moving forward with our Navision financial software (including how to get our freelancer information into it), matt's trip to Savannah and continuing the push forward to move our schedule completely to Hansoft.
Today's Reason to Drink: On May 12, 1982, guards overpower Spanish priest Juan Fernandez Krohn before he can stab Pope John Paul II during a procession in Fatima, Portugal. Krohn claimed the Pope was an agent of Moscow.

5:22p The book sale is ending
Well, it's time for me to go home, but the Czarina would like to point out that the book sale is concluding, and the Harlan Ellison wing of my library is up for purchase. Bid early and often, and give these books a good home, or I'll return to writing for science fiction magazines. (I really shouldn't scare people like this, but we're desperate.) At the very least, snag the Ziesing edition of Slippage: it's at a wonderful price the last time I checked.

11:49a National Astronomy Day
Hallmark doesn't make cards to promote the event, but May 10 is National Astronomy Day in the US, and I can think of no reason why it shouldn't be an international event. (Sadly, the Fort Worth Museum of Science & History is temporarily closed during its much-anticipated restoration and expansion, and the Dallas Museum of Nature & Science's planetarium apparently doesn't have anything scheduled at all. However, the Texas Astronomical Society of Dallas, a wonderful crew of folks, is hosting a Star Party in Frisco Commons Park on Saturday night, and you can bet your bippy that the Czarina and I will be out there. The weather is one of the reasons why May is one of my favorite times of year in Texas, especially with the honeysuckle blooming and the Mexican freetailed bats returning to eat the local bugs, and access to telescopes on a night like this is just gravy.)
